Q: Where did you grow up?
I’m from Columbus – the heart of Ohio. I still go back several times a year to visit my family. I learned to appreciate the city more in the past few years. It has beautiful seasons, great shopping (one of the top fashion design hubs in America), and is home to Jeni’s Splendid ice cream. My favorite flavors are Salty Caramel and Wildberry Lavender.
Q: What is your favorite international city?
I lived in Berlin, Germany for two years after graduating college and fell in love with its gritty, hipster vibe and fascinating history. I plan to return once a year for as long as possible to visit friends, get Döner Kebab in the Turkish neighborhood Kreuzberg, and have a German beer on one of Berlin’s 1500 bridges (more than Venice!).
Q: What is your secret talent?
I’m often told that I stay calm in stressful situations and that I can talk to anyone. Those are probably “talents,” right? I can also touch my tongue to my nose and wiggle my ears! I’m jealous of Sara’s jump roping talent. I was actually on a competitive jump roping team in kindergarten, but was never recruited into the big leagues.
Q: If you could eat only one country’s style of food for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?
Potato latkes (pancakes), lox (smoked salmon), and chocolate babka (cake)…basically all the recipes handed down to me from my Jewish bubbe (grandmother), who was born in Ukraine. She also makes her own spicy pickles from cucumbers she grows herself. Just talking about it makes me hungry!
Q: Complete the sentence: When I grow up I want to __________.
Be able to grate potatoes as fast as my grandmother and make my own pickles.
Q: What is your spirit animal?
Llamas and alpacas. The obsession began when I first visited an alpaca farm outside of Columbus with my dad as a child. There are images of llamas and alpacas all over my apartment and I have a hat and blanket made from alpaca wool. My best friend gave me llama-print iphone case from Madewell for my birthday last year. It’s that serious. Also, did you know that if a llama and alpaca cross breed, their offspring are called huarizo?
Q: What is your favorite travel “AHA! moment” or memory?
It’s been a challenge to top skydiving in Queenstown, New Zealand. A stunning city, a perfect day and the best part – my mom jumped with me!
Q: What is your favorite thing about working for Greenheart Travel?
I’m so lucky to be with an organization that offers amazing cultural exchange programs, especially because those types of opportunities have changed my life! Also, my colleagues have a blast working together and I know that’s rare.
