by Summer Grandy, Greenheart Travel Volunteer in Costa Rica
So my time here is half up- and I can say I’m feeling the goodbyes already. Before coming to Costa Rica to volunteer I’d never thought I’d make this many new friends, new coworkers, or even a new family. On this last weekend, a couple of volunteers and I decided to make a trip to la playa tamarindo. It was crazy, fun, scary, exciting, and a totally new experience. While I was there, I got to add in to the list of things I’ve never done before like: surfing, sleeping in a hostel, seeing the sunset on the beach, meeting a famous dog, riding the public bus (in Spanish might I add), being so dirty, and thinking about changing my way of life.
I can recommend going to the beach, but also say that you will miss proyecto and EVERYTHING about it. I missed it so much, I even cried when I saw my host mom again. Like I said, it’s like my second family here. That whole last week was fantastic though, I have met so many different and amazing people here. All of this is a life changing experience, all of which I had no idea I was going to have. I now feel like my heart is in two places; half in my home town, and half is here. Always – half and half.
Oh and p.s: Fourth of July was awesome here! S’mores and chubby bunny- delicioso!
Pura Vida, Summer!
