Meet the Greenheart Travel Staff: Hope Pavich!

Hope Pavich is the Program Manager for Greenheart Travel’s High School Abroad Programs. Get to know her a little better through our Meet the Staff Blog Series and check back to meet a new staff member each month this year.

Qme in a GH shirt: Where did you grow up?

Lynwood, Illinois. Google it.  It’s a pretty sweet place and the only town inclusive enough to allow me to play softball on one of its teams. Lynwood South 4 EVA!!  I actually got my head stuck in the catcher’s mask when I attempted to rip it off like I had seen done in the movies. Not a smart move for a pleasantly plump kid with a larger sized head.

Q: What is your favorite international city?

I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but I was mesmerized by Shanghai. I was there at a very special time in my life enjoying it with some incredibly, inspiring people.  I don’t want to return because that memory is something I want untouched by reality.

Q: What is your secret talent?

I don’t keep any of my “talents” secret.  They just have a way of coming out.  I will say that my high fives are very satisfying, which is well known by anyone who has ever received one.

Q: If you could eat only one country’s style of food for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?

Korean. I will never tire of bibimbap. Never. I was in Seoul for 3 days and gained 5 delicious pounds. That extra heft was a well-earned souvenir.

hammockQ: Complete the sentence: When I grow up I want to _______:

DANCE! And learn Serbian. I have a (some might say annoying) tendency to mention my Serbian heritage whenever possible. It will be difficult to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a Serbian baba if I am speaking English.

Q: What is your spirit animal?

A Zebra. I connect with their strips and natural way of emitting coolness with every step they take.  I hope to eventually see one not living in Lincoln Park Zoo.

Q: What is your favorite travel “AHA! moment” or memory?

When I was traveling through China on a train and freaked out two guys sitting next to me. They were telling a funny story (in Mandarin) and I was eavesdropping a bit and laughed out loud at the end. They were probably talking so loudly because they didn’t think I would be able to understand them.  To be honest, I didn’t think I would be able to understand them either until I realized I ‘got’ the joke. They moved seats shortly thereafter.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working for Greenheart Travel?

High fiving my colleagues for a great day at the office. I also enjoy living vicariously through our participants by reading their blogs!cambodia

Stay tuned for next month’s meet the staff blog our Outreach Coordinator, Molly Fried!
