France, to some is the word that simply labels a realm far off, overseas.
To others, it is a country located between Spain and Belgium.
Some even remember France as the country that offered us a gift representing our freedom and liberty.
Certain individuals might go so far as to share their thoughts of France as those awesome three weeks of summer, filled with crepes, expensive shoes and beautiful old buildings.
France, to me, is easily all of the above; however it goes a bit deeper.
France for a short but significant 5 months of my life, represented my home, my family, and so nearly my culture. The southwest region of Languedoc-Roussillon, stretching from Montpellier to Nimes, is where I lived out my adventure abroad, learning and experiencing so much. The friendships I made, the adversities I over came, the generosity expressed towards me, the meals and delicacies I savored and the bread I regaled over have opened, not only my eyes, but my heart to so much more and has added so much meaning to that simple title: France.
The songs I dance to; the friends I laughed with; the fields of grape vines I saw as I ran along the country roads; the cafeteria where I feasted; the class I learned with; and the beautiful memories to which these images have all contributed are swirls of pigmentation giving life to my thoughts of France. These are memories that are far from ever fading from my mind. Memories that I will always hold high in esteem and admiration. Memories that bestow an unwavering affection towards that word, that country, that home called “France.”
