An Irish Birthday Celebration Abroad

by Emily Syverud, CCI Greenheart Travel High School Exchange student in Ireland

My birthday is here and I can hardly believe it, everything has gone by so quickly here in Ireland! I had a really amazing birthday. I got to sleep late because today’s a bank holiday – that was definitely a plus! As soon as I woke up I took my birthday package downstairs to open. I got it on last Monday and managed to resist it until my actual birthday. It was such a great way to start off my birthday; I really loved all the cards that various friends and relatives included. It was so fun to read everyone’s messages and birthday wishes. A special thank you to anyone who helped with it!

While I was opening my package I got another lovely surprise. The three boys presented me with a card and gift. My host family got me a beautiful mug that says “Home Sweet Home” so I’ll always have something to remember my Irish home by. Soon after that was another surprise! They brought out a cake all lit up with candles and sang Happy Birthday. Matty and I blew out the candles (his birthday is coming up soon). Then we had to relight them about 4 times, so everyone could have a turn to blow out the candles. Then, it was cake for breakfast.
